An e-learning app for Somalis
FogaanDersi, translated as “Distance Learning,” is a free online learning platform from the government of Somalia’s Wasaaradda Waxbarashada Hiddaha Iyo Tacliinta Sare, or the Ministry of Education, Culture and Higher Education in English. It is where students have access to learning materials, lessons, and the like.
A mix of audio and video lessons
After a user has signed up or entered their log-in credentials, they will be able to view all subjects and their respective semi-circle progress bars — giving the individual a visual cue of their current progress. There are also videos and audio lessons for students to access at any time.
In this way, learners have agency over their study schedule — exercising their responsibility over their own learning. There is a teacher section, as well. The app, however, is only available in the Somali language, so changing the language is a no-go here.
Not available in the English language
Developed with Somali students in mind, FogaanDersi is an educational platform that supports distance learning in schools. As all materials are available in audio and video format, students can conveniently access them from their smart devices. There is no English language option at the moment, though.
